What it does
Reads the resume, not the file name
Point it at a folder of PDF and Word resumes. It finds your name and the role each version targets from the text inside the file.
One consistent name
Every file becomes Name_Role_Date_vN. Cover letters are tagged CoverLetter, and a second version for the same role becomes v2 instead of overwriting v1.
You approve every rename
Suggested names appear in a table first. Edit any of them, and nothing on disk changes until you click Apply Renames.
Three ways to work out the role
Offline Smart matches the resume text against a built-in list of job titles you can add to. It needs no API key or account, and the files never leave your computer. Manual lets you type the role once and apply it to every file. AI-Powered reads the whole resume — headline, skills and experience — for the most accurate role, using your own Anthropic API key; you pay Anthropic directly, typically a few cents per resume, and there is no subscription.
Why the naming matters
Tailoring a resume for each application is good advice, and it produces a folder nobody can navigate. When a recruiter calls back three weeks later, you need to know exactly which version they have. A name that carries the role and the date answers that without opening a single file, and sorts itself into order in any folder or email attachment list.

Is Resume Renamer really free?
Yes, during the introductory period. Request a key with your email address and it arrives in a minute. Each key lasts 90 days; when it runs out, request another from this page with the same email and a fresh one is sent.
Why does Windows say it protected my PC?
Resume Renamer is not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time you run it. Click More info, then Run anyway. The download is served directly from stashgrid.site over HTTPS.
Does the app upload my resumes?
Not in Offline Smart or Manual mode: the files are read and renamed on your own computer. AI-Powered mode sends the text of each resume to Anthropic, using your own API key, to work out the job title. The licence check sends only your key to stashgrid.site, and the optional Feedback button sends only what you type into it.
What will my files be called?
FirstInitialLastName_Role_Date_Version, for example SBrowning_ProjectManager_2026-09-30_v1.pdf. Cover letters get a CoverLetter tag, and a second file for the same role becomes v2 instead of overwriting the first. Every suggested name can be edited before anything is renamed.
I lost my key. What do I do?
Request a key again with the same email. A new key is sent and the old one stops working, so a lost key can never be used by someone else.
